Description

A scientist as facility manager is available every Wednesday for introductory lessons and for discussions about imaging and microscopy issues.

Infrastructure/methods

Confocal microscope; ZEISS LSM 510 META

This microscope is suitable for fixed samples, 3-D and live cell imaging, bleaching and photo activation techniques, spectral analyses and 4D imaging. It is an inverted microscope equipped with an Argon laser (458/477/488/514 nm) a HeNe1 laser (561 nm) and a HeNe2 laser (633 nm).

The instrument has a Meta detector (A 32-channel detector) for acquisition of Lambda Stacks and subsequent digital separation into component dyes, two additional PMT's for confocal detection and one for non confocal bright field images.

Standard equipment for ocular observation of reflected light is present (an X-cite Mercury lamp and filters for UV (Dapi), blue light (FITC/GFP) and green light (TRITC/Ds Red)). For image acquisition of live cells a heating stage and an incubator for controlled temperature/CO2 is available.

The following lenses are available:
  • Plan-Apo 5x/
  • Plan-Apo 10x/0.45
  • Plan-Apo 20x/0.8
  • Plan-Apo 40x/1.0 Oil,
  • Plan-Apo 63x/1.4 Oil, DIC
  • Plan-Apo 63x/1.2 W, DIC.
The system is run by the Zeiss AIM 4.2 software
