Image Bioinformatics and Expression Analysis (BEA)
Host: Department of Biosciences and Nutrition (Karolinska Institutet)
Type: Core facility
BEA- the core facility for Bioinformatics and Expression Analysis is focused on genomic analysis based on the Affymetrix, Agilent and Illumina platforms for microarray analysis. This includes gene expression and RNA splicing analysis, global DNA-binding and transcriptome analysis, epigenetic analysis including DNA-methylation and miRNA analysis and genome wide SNP and CNV analysis. We also run quantitative real-time PCR using the ABI platform. Read more
Image Caenorhabditis elegans competence center
Host: Department of Biosciences and Nutrition (Karolinska Institutet)
Type: Specific technique
Caenorhabditis elegans is an excellent model organism for studying the genetics of development and neurobiology. Its genome is entirely sequenced and the fate of every cell is known throughout development. Also, the complete nervous system connectivity has been determined. Read more
Image Genomics platform at SciLife Lab
Host: SciLifeLab
Type: Core facility
Modern genome analysis critically depend on expertise in computational biology (e.g. bioinformatics, biostatistics, and theoretical systems biology). Such expertise is closely integrated with the experimental genomics unit at SciLifeLab in order to optimize throughput, data handling, and analysis. Read more
Image KI Biobank
Host: Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (Karolinska Institutet)
Type: Core facility
A national biobank for collection, handling and storage of human biological material is established at Karolinska Institutet. This non-commercial resource aims to promote scientific excellence within molecular and genetic research in Sweden. Read more

We provide fast and accurate DNA sequencing services for both small and large-scale DNA sequencing projects, expression analysis and genotyping . We also offer quantity and quality determination of RNA, DNA, protein and dye incorporation, as well as DNA methylation analysis. Read more
Image Mutation Analysis Facility (MAF)
Host: Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge (Karolinska University Hospital)
Type: Core facility
The purpose and mission of the Mutation Analysis core Facility (MAF) is to help scientists at Karolinska Institutet, its associated hospitals, and other academic institutions to perform genetic, epigenetic and genetic-epidemiological research in order to identify and assess genetic factors involved in different disease processes. SNP genotyping, targeted epigenetic analyses, as well as high throughput sequencing are performed for a wide variety of applications. Read more
Protein Science Facility
Host: Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (Karolinska Institutet)
Type: Core facility
The Protein Science Facility has been established to provide academic users with protein production services and access to the state-of-the-art infrastructure for protein crystallography and biophysical protein characterisation available at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB). The facility is based on the platforms and methodologies established by the Structural Genomics Consortium project hosted by MBB 2005-2011, and offers subsidized services to its users. Read more
Image Regional Biobank Centre (RBC) in Uppsala-Örebro region
Host: Svenska biobanksregistret (SBR)
Type: Core facility
Regional Biobank Center Uppsala/Örebro is a common resource for the counties in our health care region Dalarna, Gävleborg, Södermanland, Uppsala, Värmland, Västmanland and Örebro. We take care of issues involved in biobank law and we act as a central support for the counties’ biobank coordinators, healthcare providers, researchers, pharmaceutical companies and the public. This is done for example by providing information and administrating the management of certain multi-center studies. Read more
Image RNAi High-throughput Screening (HTS) Facility
Host: Science for Life Laboratory (Karolinska Institute, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University)
Type: Core facility
The purpose of the RNAi Cell Screening facility is to provide access to micro plate based high throughput RNAi screens in cells for the Swedish scientific community. RNAi mediated inhibition of gene expression is a powerful tool for mapping genes and their function. The facilities have presently two human genome wide RNAi libraries (for more information please see http://www.scilifelab.se/archive/pdf/tmp/Cell_Screening_extra.pdf). Read more
