Find Academic Tools of Science

This part of the platform offers researchers within academia and industry with up to date and high quality core facilities, resources and competence from academia in a wide range of areas within life science. We believe that shared access to research facilitates enhances scientific productivity.

The information is updated at least once a year.

The academic Tools of Science are all categorised either as a core facility, equipment, a specific resource, or a course. In some cases, a tool functions both as a core facility and as a specific resource, and is therefore included in both categories. The tools are divided into a number of thematic areas such as; genomics and visualisation techniques. In some cases, a tool can be included in more than one thematic area to ensure that you will find what you are looking for.

The academic Tools of Science are defined as the ones belonging to Karolinska Institutet, Karolinska University Hospital, the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University, Uppsala University or Uppsala University Hospital. They are divided into the following four categories:

  • Core Facility - A core facility offers technical and/or theoretical service to other scientists. Partial or complete services may be offered, depending on the facility. A core facility has a clear structure and can be used by other research groups based on a fixed fee. There are qualified personnel who serve clients, and the facility usually operates independently from the research group.
  • Equipment - Equipment is available to other scientists, but no other service is offered. In many cases you must first show relevant skills to use the equipment.
  • Specific technique - At a specific technique the research group is mainly interested in collaboration projects with other scientists, or may provide you with technical and/or theoretical advice in specific areas.
